Match 39/100The match score marks how many conditions overlap on a 0 to 100 scale: the 52-week range, valuation metrics, price change and volume. It is not a probability of rising or a forecast return.
Today's read
Broadcom scores 39 out of 100 on today's InverseOne match ranking, 9 of 30 in the US large-cap universe. The gap to its 52-week high is 40%. Today's move of -0.30% came with money flowing out; the broader Semiconductors sector flow is worth checking. Researched 2026-09-08 06:55 KSTSeventy percent of quarterly revenue comes from the semiconductor segment, yet $71,788 million of the $97,801 million of goodwill sits with the software segment.
Revenue and goodwill at Broadcom lean in opposite directions. Of the $29,591 million of revenue in the third quarter of fiscal 2026, which ended on 2 August 2026, $20,839 million came from semiconductor solutions. On the balance sheet, $71,788 million of the $97,801 million of goodwill is allocated to infrastructure software and $26,013 million to semiconductor solutions. Those two segments are the only split the company publishes, and GAAP operating income for the quarter was $15,955 million. Cash spent on property, plant and equipment was $532 million, against $2,006 million of amortization of acquisition-related intangible assets.

The release splits revenue into two segments and no more
Broadcom closed the third quarter of fiscal 2026 on 2 August 2026. The only segment split in the earnings release is semiconductor solutions at $20,839 million and infrastructure software at $8,752 million, with silicon accounting for 70 percent of the $29,591 million total. A year earlier the two lines were $9,166 million and $6,786 million. Of the $13,639 million of revenue added over those twelve months, $11,673 million came from the semiconductor side. One more number sits outside that table. The chief executive, describing demand for custom accelerators and networking, put the quarter's revenue from that silicon at $16.7 billion, and the paragraph quoting him is the only place in the release where the figure appears. The company put fourth quarter revenue at approximately $34.8 billion.

Goodwill piles up on the other side
Goodwill on the balance sheet was $97,801 million as of 2 August 2026, unchanged from 2 November 2025. The split by segment is published in the annual report: $71,788 million with infrastructure software and $26,013 million with semiconductor solutions. The segment that produces 70 percent of revenue carries a little over a quarter of the goodwill. The same report shows where the software side grew. The purchase price allocation for the VMware acquisition added $54,206 million of goodwill to that segment along with $45,572 million of intangible assets.

$532 million spent on property, plant and equipment
Cash used to buy property, plant and equipment in the quarter was $532 million, against $142 million in the year-ago quarter and $231 million in the quarter before this one. Capital spending grew as revenue rose 86 percent, but it still equals 1.8 percent of the $29,591 million of quarterly revenue. Depreciation in the cash flow statement was $171 million. Property, plant and equipment on the balance sheet stands at $3,144 million net, or 1.7 percent of $188,148 million of total assets. The annual report states that most front-end wafer manufacturing is outsourced to external foundries and that a significant majority of assembly and test work goes to contract manufacturers. Internal fabrication is kept for products that use the company's own processes.

The $4,140 million between the two operating income figures
The company reports operating income two ways: $15,955 million on a GAAP basis and $20,095 million after a set of exclusions. The reconciliation table in the release splits the $4,140 million difference into three lines. Amortization of acquisition-related intangible assets is $2,006 million, stock-based compensation is $2,019 million, and restructuring and other charges are $115 million. A year earlier the same gap was $4,568 million. Revenue grew 86 percent over those twelve months while the distance between the two figures shrank by $428 million.

Where the $32,950 million of operating cash went
Operating activities produced $32,950 million of cash over the first three quarters of fiscal 2026, and new borrowings over the same period added $4,474 million. Put to work, that money left long-term debt down from $61,984 million to $57,167 million and cash and cash equivalents up from $16,178 million to $23,975 million. Item by item, what went out was $9,281 million of dividends, $8,450 million of share repurchases and $1,013 million of property, plant and equipment. The next dividend, $0.65 per share, is payable on 30 September. One line runs larger than any of those three: $10,528 million of debt repayment.

Common questions
- Where in the earnings release does the $16.7 billion of silicon revenue appear?
- In the paragraph quoting the chief executive, not in any table. The only segment split in the release is semiconductor solutions at $20,839 million and infrastructure software at $8,752 million, and the $16.7 billion is not broken out as a line of its own. The company said that revenue grew 221 percent from a year earlier and 54 percent from the prior quarter.
- How much did Broadcom spend on plant and equipment in a quarter where revenue rose 86 percent?
- $532 million, against $142 million a year earlier and $231 million in the prior quarter. Depreciation in the same quarter was $171 million and net property, plant and equipment on the balance sheet is $3,144 million. The annual report states that most front-end wafer manufacturing is outsourced to external foundries.
- What fills the $4,140 million gap between GAAP and adjusted operating income?
- Amortization of acquisition-related intangible assets of $2,006 million, stock-based compensation of $2,019 million and restructuring and other charges of $115 million. The three add up to $4,140 million. The same gap was $4,568 million a year earlier.
- How is the $97,801 million of goodwill allocated between the segments?
- As of 2 November 2025, $71,788 million sits with infrastructure software and $26,013 million with semiconductor solutions. The VMware acquisition added $54,206 million of goodwill to the software segment. Total goodwill on the 2 August 2026 balance sheet is unchanged at $97,801 million.
